Lenta Cattle Crush Instruction Manual
Product Overview
Your safety is our focus
All Te Pari crushes and handlers are designed to deliver the ultimate in safety. At times working with livestock can be a dangerous business so we have designed many features into our Lenta Crushes and head bails to reduce the risk of accidents and injuries.
Ratchets and pawls by their very nature are prone to wear, before starting a session we strongly recommend checking over the operation of your crush with particular attention to the locking action of the head bail. Animal safety is also of great importance, so all our equipment is designed to get the job done with minimal discomfort and distress to the animal.
At Te Pari Products we take quality seriously. We only manufacture from top-quality materials and have thorough and effective quality control systems in place. Our production systems mean our products are of the highest standard, so much so, that from the time of purchase, our Lenta Crush carries a full 36-month structural warranty.
Lenta MS1 Crush
1 Piece Gate Entry Level option
This crush is the most basic option and has one one-piece, gate with a slam latch on each side with only rails (no sheeting). An optional anti-backing ratchet and offside draft handle can be fitted at any stage.
Lenta MR2 / MX2 Crush
2 Piece Gate - Sheeted lower gate
This gate system has a separate upper and lower gate. The upper gate has a built-in anti-backing ratchet for animal restraint. The sheeted lower gate gives easy access to mother on calves and hoof work inspection. The gates on both sides open at the front and can be pinned together and opened using a single latch for easy drafting.
Lenta MR3 / MX3 Crush
3 Piece Gate - The EID Gate System
This gate system has all the features of the 2-piece gate plus the inclusion of the patented eRail Gate. The drop-down access gate at the back of the upper gate combined with the eRail Gate at the front provide unrivalled access to the animal in the crush. The electronic controls for the eRail Gate are optional.
Dimensions
NOTE: All dimensions are shown in millimetres (mm) and all weights are in kilograms (kgs). The standard height of all crushes is 2350mm. The operating height of the Headbail is 2425mm due to the linkage position. Weights are approximate as they vary depending on fitted options. If the crush is fitted with an offside draft handle or overhead scale pendant the overall height will increase.
* These measurements are the overall length excluding the sign on the head bail, the sign adds about a further 100mm. Add 220mm for the sliding gate if fitted.

Optional Accessories
Straight Yolk Attachment
The Straight Yolk Attachment option is great for calves that may not be tall enough to be held comfortably in the usual head bail.
Sternum Bar
The Sternum Bar bolts onto the floor of your Te Pari Crush and prevents animals from going down while in the crush. The curved galvanised steel pipe design is strong, easy to fit and removable.
Head Scoop
The Head Scoop option lifts the animals head and holds it in place securely to make administering oral medication easier.
Offside Draft Handle
The offside sorting handle allows the operator on the working side of the crush to open and close the offside gate by way of an overhead handle located at the rear of the crush. This allows cattle to be sorted directly out of the crush without the operator having to leave the working area. This handle is optional on all models.
Baulk Gate
The Baulk Gate is an extra safety gate designed for in front of the head bail. It is ideal for aggressive or horned animals, to prevent them from running straight through the head bail. The two gates are hinged, so they can be moved out of the way when they are not required.
Weigh Scale Pendant
Get the best view of your weigh scale with the new bolt-on Weigh Scale Display stand. Simply bolted to the rear of the cattle crush, this stand can be adjusted in height and rotated to get the best view for you.
It also keeps the load bar cables out of the way with internal routing through the frame, making for a clean and trip-free workplace. Available on all Lenta Crushes.
3 Way Drafting Module
Our manual 3-way drafting module is designed for easy and efficient drafting and to save labour. Wire ropes control the drafting gates from the rear of the crush.
Heavy Duty Load Bars
Start weighing with the Te Pari Heavy-Duty Loadbars. Rated to 4000kgs/8800lbs. The bars are designed to sit under the full crush, raising it off the ground.
Unloading Instructions
If your unloading facility is not capable of lifting the total weight safely unload any additional products that may have been stored inside the crush for transport.
The best option is to use a forklift under the top main chassis rail. Take special care to avoid placing loads upon the shafts and handles.
If you notice any freight damage on arrival, please notify Te Pari Products immediately. We also recommend that you write details of any damage that may have occurred on the driver's copy of the delivery consignment note.
Installation Instructions
Mounting scales
If you are mounting load bars in your Lenta Crush it needs to be free-standing, so we do not recommend that gates are latching onto or swinging off the unit.
Bolt the load bars underneath the crush to the mounting points on the chassis rail. A flat and level concrete surface will be necessary to ensure accurate weighing.
Operating Instructions
Loading and securing the animal
In the interests of safety before commencing a session we recommend checking the head bail operation and testing its locking mechanism before use.
- Rear Sliding Gate
- Open the sliding gate and allow the animal to enter.
- Open Head Bail
- For best operation, open the head bail doors to the approximate width of the animal's head but less than the shoulders, this is a gap of about 300mm.
- Once the animal puts its head in the gap close the head bail.
- Important: Close the head bail in one fast continuous motion ensuring that all the backlash (slop) in the linkages is removed as the head bail closes tight on the animal's neck.
- If the head bail maintenance is not kept up to date with the head bail regularly greased it will make operating more difficult and the animal may not be held tight enough.
- Optional Baulk Gate
- A quick reflex is required to catch horned animals. We recommend the Baulk Gate option is fitted to assist in catching larger horned animals.
- Rear Head Bail Handle
- If a rear handle option is fitted to your crush disengage the front handle when using the rear handle and visa versa. A rear handle option assists in the efficient use of the head bail as you are always standing behind the animal when head bailing and makes catching the animal easier.
- Anti-Backing Ratchet
- Anti Backing Ratchets are included in Lenta MX and MR crush models. They can be added as an optional accessory to MS models. They should be used during vet work to provide extra restraint and used in conjunction with your head bail.
- Always ensure you stand on the head bail side of the pipe when you are inserting the anti-backing ratchet pipe behind the animal. If the animal suddenly moves backwards it will flick the pipe away from the operator.
- Always ensure the anti-backing ratchet collar is engaged in the track to stop it from sliding out sideways as the animal moves.
The animal is now restrained and ready to process further as required.
Optional Vet Section
A Vet Section on a crush makes vet work safer. It features a split door with slam latches. The lower half of the door has a kick opening system which means the operator can open the gate with their foot without having to bend down. The lower gate swings inside the crush to lock in behind the animal, providing protection from kicks.
The upper half of the Vet Section gate can be swung inside the crush or out depending on operator preference. The upper and lower half of the Vet Section Gate can also be opened as one piece.
Optional Parallel Squeeze
A Lenta Crush with parallel squeeze is useful for providing extra animal restraint or for narrowing the inside of the crush to prevent calves from turning while inside.
The Parallel Squeeze System moves the side gates together to reduce the animal compartment width from 750mm to 340mm. It is operated via an easy-to-use lever at the front of the operating side of the crush.
Maintenance
Cleaning
For the longevity of your Te Pari Crush, we recommend that it is cleaned down thoroughly after use. Cattle urine and faeces can have a corrosive effect on your equipment.
Lubrication
Lubricate all grease nipples, pivots and tracks on your Te Pari Crush unit at least once per month or every 1,000 animals processed. The nylon wheels on the sliding gate require lubrication once every 2 months.
Checking for wear and damage
Check the headbail lock system for wear and tear at least once every 6 months, or every 1,000 animals processed. The pawls or locking plates on the crush headbail can be turned over to provide a fresh edge - effectively doubling their life.
Annually check pivots and bolts for wear and replace as required.
