Permanent Steel
Cattle Yards

Good cattle yard design maximises cattle flow and natural herding instincts to get them through the yard as fast as possible. Te Pari has over 25 years of experience designing and building steel cattle yards for farmers worldwide, so you can rest easy knowing you're in good hands.

Why choose a Te Pari
Steel Cattle Yard?

Safety

Many Te Pari yard designs include a ‘cattle-free’ working area, providing the operator with a safe and secure area to work and store supplies. Personnel access gates are included in many designs, allowing the operator to move around quickly and safely.

Efficiency

Our expertly designed cattle yards ensure livestock flow through the yard efficiently. Operating a Te Pari stockyard is a one-person task, and we offer a range of automated upgrades to increase efficiency further.

Reliability

Our steel cattle yards have been tried and tested in New Zealand, Australia, the USA and the UK for over 25 years. We utilise only premium components and all manufacturing is done in our cutting-edge factory in New Zealand, ensuring it's long-lasting reliable and durable.

Quick to install

The installation process typically takes between 3 and 5 days, depending on the size of your cattle yard and the extent of the groundwork required. Te Pari will oversee the entire process, ensuring minimal downtime.

Quiet, rattle-free design

The working area of a Te Pari steel cattle yard features a solid concrete base. Our custom panel clamps eliminate rattling, and our anti-rattle slam latches use nylon bushes, removing the steel-on-steel noise, and ensuring a quiet working environment.

Stronger than the rest

Te Pari stockyards utilise our custom-made 67x48mm steel rails, which are 15% wider than most alternatives. The extra width enhances lateral strength, meaning the panels won't bend when cattle push against them.

How does Te Pari design a
Steel Cattle Yard?

1

Planning

A Te Pari consultant will be in touch to discuss your operation and assess your needs. With over 25 years of experience assisting farmers worldwide, you can rest easy knowing you're in good hands.

2

Site Assessment

Our team will help you select the optimal location for your steel cattle yard. When choosing a site, it's essential to consider traffic patterns, lighting, entry/exit areas, and loading/unloading points.

3

Concept Design and Quote

Following the on-site visit, we will use the drone footage and images gathered to create a realistic 3D model of the cattle yard plan and a detailed plan for the proposed work.

4

Site Preparation

Once the yard design is approved, Te Pari will oversee the site's preparation, which can involve earthwork, drainage and concrete installation.

5

Delivery and Installation

When the site work has concluded, Te Pari will deliver and unload the stockyards to ensure it arrives undamaged. After that, our highly skilled installation team will construct the cattle yard.

How does a Te Pari
Steel Cattle Yard operate?

Force Pen.

The forcing pen helps to guide livestock into the cattle race. We offer two types of force pens based on your needs and budget.

Rotary Force Pen

The rotary force pen is a 3.2m wide, revolving steel gate that pushes cattle towards the race. The gate includes an anti-backing latch that automatically locks into place every 0.5m, preventing the cattle from charging the gate and injuring the operator.

The rotary force pen can be fully automated for faster and safer cattle handling and is available with our "C" or "S" cattle handling races.

Traditional Force Pen

The conventional force pen requires the handler to be inside the cattle yard to operate it. It is an excellent low-cost solution but is only suitable for experienced operators or when managing mild cattle.

Cattle Race.

Not all cattle races are created equal. At Te Pari, we use the best practices defined by industry leaders, such as Dr Temple Grandin, to ensure the optimal performance of our cattle yards. We offer two types of cattle races based on your needs and budget.

S-Race

The S-Race is a cattle race shaped like the letter "S". The curved design of the S-Race facilitates cattle movement, and its increased size allows for larger internal holding pens, making it ideal for large operations.

Unlike the C-Race, the S-Race can be fully automated for faster and safer cattle handling.

C-Race

The C-Race is a cattle race shaped like the letter "C". Its curved design promotes cattle movement, and its smaller size is ideal for small to mid-sized operations.

Drafting.

Drafting cattle is made easy with a range of options to suit your yard design based on your needs.

3/5-Way Draft Module

With a Te Pari Cattle Crush and Draft Module, animal drafting from up to five gates becomes effortless. The handler can manually operate the gates through the levers at the rear of the cattle crush. However, Te Pari also offers an entirely automated solution for cattle management.

Sorting Pen (Drafting Pound)

The sorting pen has been strategically placed in the steel cattle yard to ensure smooth and efficient operations. Its design enables the cattle to move without experiencing stress or injuries. The sorting pen can include up to 6 exit gates that feed into separate yards for easy sorting.

Transfer Pen

The transfer pen is positioned between multiple internal pens, allowing stock to move from the inner pens to the outer pens, or vice versa, without disturbing the adjacent pens.

Cattle Yard
Construction.

Te Pari Steel Cattle Yards are made in New Zealand with high-quality Australian steel. Our custom-made oval cattle rails offer superior strength and all steel parts are hot-dip galvanised after fabrication to ensure the best protection from corrosion - inside and out.

Custom-Made, Anti-Bruise Cattle Rails

Our custom cattle rail provides superior lateral strength compared to standard oval cattle rails. It measures 67x48 mm and provides equivalent strength to square cattle rails without sharp edges and pressure points that may harm livestock. Additionally, due to its smaller height, the rail provides better visibility for both cattle and handlers.

The rails are backed by our 5-year Stockbend Warranty. If a rail bends under lateral force during the warranty period, we will replace the entire panel at no extra cost.

Hot-dip galvanised
for superior rust protection

Our fabricated steel components are immersed in molten zinc during the 'hot dip' galvanisation process, resulting in a highly durable thick outer layer of zinc and a bonded inner layer (Zn-Fe) that protects against corrosion.

Process

The galvanising process occurs after fabrication, ensuring that even the welded joints are safeguarded and protected.

Coverage

The zinc coats the entire surface area, including places that would otherwise be unreachable.

Zinc Coating

Hot dip galvanising produces a thicker zinc coating for better protection.

Bonded

Unlike spray or powder coatings, the coating is bonded with the steel, making it more durable for everyday wear and tear.

Cattle Yard Panels.

We offer two options for installing our yard panels on your site; Permanent or Flag Pole.

Permanent Panels

The working areas in our cattle and stockyards use permanent panels securely mounted to a concrete base with high-quality Dynabolts. Our custom-made clamps connect the panels, ensuring they remain stable, sturdy, and rattle-free.

Flag-Pole Permanent Panels

The holding pens in our steel cattle yards use our custom-made flag-pole panels. These panels have a large pole cemented into the ground on one side and connect using our custom-made clamps, just like our regular permanent panels. This design is best suited for large yards where there are longer runs and the surface is gravel or dirt.

Cattle Yard Gates.

The right gate in the right position is essential in cattle yards to ensure smooth, efficient handling, and enhance the safety and productivity of the operators

Gate Latches.

Anti-Rattle Slam Latches

Our anti-rattle slam latches have noise-reducing nylon bush inserts, steel handles, a heavy-duty 25mm striker pin and a compact strike plate with a nylon bush to reduce the noise. This helps keep the animals calm, and the compact design reduces the risk of injury.

Gate Anchors

Our gate anchors allow you to fasten a gate to the ground and are particularly useful for creating temporary barriers or guiding cattle. When moving cattle thru the gates, the anchors are a great way of latching the gate to the panels, stopping it from opening if bumped by cattle.
